Councillor in my ward: the asshole won.

Public school trustee in my ward: there’s no way the non-asshole is going to win, but I haven’t seen the results yet.

It’s a sad day.

Sounds like someone else running in this election. Though I guess Smitherman has been more effective here, since so many people I know are voting for ‘anyone but Ford.’

Where was Smitherman when the province cut funding for Transit City? And that was something that could actually be built quickly and would serve huge chunks of the city. It’s also the plan endorsed by the TTC, who spend a bunch of their time thinking about transit. Calling Pantalone’s endorsement of Transit City ‘what we had before’ ideas is a bit disingenuous.

Pantalone seems to be the only candidate who actually likes Toronto.

But yeah, I don’t see him winning.

The race in my ward looks like a close one too. Plenty of suspense tonight.

He’s a pale imitation of Miller, without any of his own ideas. Smitherman isn’t perfect either, but he rates better than Pants on racial equality and arts and culture, the same on the enviroment, and very close to him on housing, poverty and transit – all with good passing grades. Those are just a matter of opinion, of course, from various pressure groups (personally, I think Toronto would benefit from Smitherman’s more ambitious TTC plan, over Pantalone’s rather tame “what we had before” ideas, for example), and I think the Green Energy Act shows his ability to get good things done, and his about making our city and province a world leader. The differences between the two are marginal, but Smitherman seems to have more of a vision.

You can compromise on the one who might beat Ford, or the one who can’t. To me, there’s certainly not enough of a difference between them to risk throwing the whole city away over.
