“Harper government to spend $6.5-million to promote tax-cutting record”
The headline above is courtesy of Thursday’s edition of the Globe and Mail. By the way, that’s $6.5 million in public funds, not Conservative party expenses.
A Canada Revenue Agency spokesperson said that the purpose of the campaign is to ensure Canadians take full advantage of this year’s available tax measures. But Kevin Gaudet, president of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, which of course is a nonprofit organization dedicated to “lower taxes, less waste and accountable government,” says it’s “hard not to see this as anything but government electioneering at taxpayer expense.”
