Today’s the first day of my “Six Weeks of Rush” challenge

For those of you keeping score, today’s the first day of my well-intended but ultimately disastrous Six Weeks of Rush ordeal. As I noted in a prior post, I’ll be tuning into the show live from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, but because I’ll be at work I won’t be tweeting about it until this evening.

If you’re not already following @SixWeeksofRush, now’s a great time to do so. If you feel like encouraging others to do so, even better. I think I’ve done a fairly good job so far of maintaining a liberal and conservative balance among my followers, but that’s no reason not to bulk up your side with a few more, for example.

Here goes nothing. Wish me luck, and feel free to share your thoughts and opinions as we go, either on Twitter or in the comments on this site. Thanks!

I was on facebook this morning, reading the wildly incendiary comments that some of my husband’s American relatives post about Obama (He’s not Christian! God isn’t on his side! He’s a socialist! He is stupid! He’s a communist! He’s killing the economy! And so on… the only thing they didn’t accuse the man of was kicking puppies).

My knee-jerk reaction is to get really angry, “unfriend” these two aunts-in-law and pretend that their politics don’t exist. It made me think about your experiment and realize that I really admire you for listening to the ultra-conservative side without simply getting angry and leaving the conversation. Hope it’s going well.

Thanks, Polly. In times of frustration, I find it pays to remember that Rush is basically just saying these things because it’s his job. It’s the listeners who take them to heart that worry me, but to each their own.
