Say, what’s the deal with this whole #IdleNoMore thing?

If you’re like me, and you’re still trying to get a handle on the #IdleNoMore protests, then you’re not alone. The movement has grown so quickly in its first few weeks, and spread so far beyond our borders, that even the people behind the movement’s official website have said they can’t keep up with all of the demonstrations being organized in Canada and other parts of the world.

But what’s it all about? Well, the good people at Rabble have shared an article that was originally published on Media Indigena, and it’s a good place to start. It looks at a number of the issues at the heart of the protest, and it puts the movement in the context of similar indigenous movements that have come before. They’ve also posted a compelling case for non-indigenous Canadians supporting the protests.

Like I’ve said, I’m still catching up on these developments; I was out of the country during the holidays, and I missed out on the crucial early days. But I’m interested to see how things unfold, and I’ll try to share more information as it develops, either here or in my feed on Twitter. I’d love to hear your thoughts and check out your links as well, so do feel free to sound off in the comments.
