Weekend Mission Accomplished: Set up an eReader

My generous and literary wife was kind enough to give me a refurbished Kobo as an early Valentines Day present. We’re going on vacation with my family at the end of the week, and it’s going to be a great opportunity to catch up on some reading. But since our luggage for any trip these days is about a hundred pounds of baby stuff, it pays to keep our own packing to a medium.

I set it up this weekend, and I think I’ve got the hang of it. The Toronto Public Library has a pretty great selection of eBooks, and my wife got me started with a few classics. It still feels a bit like the Game Boy of books, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it in no time.

There are still a few kinks, of course. Much as I hate to admit it, mobile device syncing seems to be my Achilles’ heel. My last weekend project took a major step backward when iTunes decided not to recognize my library, and I think I’m going to have to reconfigure it from scratch and delete a lot of duplicates. The same seems to go for my Kobo, which came away from my first sync with two copies of most of my eBooks on it.

Either way, I’m sure I’ll get it sorted. I’m willing to bet there’s any number of eBooks out there that can walk me through these issues. Once I figure out how to download, sync and read one of them, I’m basically set.
