Thanks again for making this year’s Father’s Day Walk a great one!

One of the things I promised to do last week, and which I failed to do before putting this blog on hold for a minute, was give you a recap of the Father’s Day Walk I did with my daughter. It was a rainy day, but a great day, and I’m very grateful to everyone who helped make it happen.

With your support, in the space of just over a week, the two of us raised a respectable $175.00 to benefit the fight against prostate cancer. The walk as a whole brought in a total of $183,817.00, which is a pretty remarkable achievement. It’s not too late to make a donation to the cause, so if you’d like to get involved, please do so online.

The walk itself was tougher than expected, due to the massive amount of rain that came down that morning. Combine that with a kid who’s not too keen on the bus these days, and the 5K walk ended up being an 11K journey on foot to the park and back. But she had a great time despite the rain and the heat, and when she went down for a nap after we got home, I had a nap of my own.

It was a busy day, but that’s the way a working parent’s weekend ought to be. When you work all week, you want to make the most of the time you have with your family at the weekend. The walk took a lot of planning, not to mention a big chunk of time, but it was a lot of fun and well worth doing. As much as I love a lazy weekend, I’m going to keep an eye out for more events like this one.

Speaking of which, the next fundraising event my daughter and I are going to do together will be this year’s AIDS Walk. It will be the fifth time I’ve done it, and the second time I’ve brought my daughter – who, to be fair, had only been born about seven months prior to her first walk. Registration just opened, so I’m sure it won’t be long before I’m hassling you all for more donations and such. Watch out for that, would you?
