May 35
Today is the twentieth anniversary of the massacre in Tiananmen Square. The Chinese government reportedly chose to commemorate the occasion by blocking public access to sites like Twitter, Hotmail, Bing, YouTube, Blogger, Tumblr, Livejournal, Flickr, Live.com and the Huffington Post.
In fact, according to a recent tweet from Nicholas D. Kristof of the New York Times, China has even blocked the use of the phrase “June 4″ in web postings. So if you hear anyone talking about May 35, then that’s what’s up.
