It’s a White House! A White House!

A little while back, I hit YouTube in search of the final scene from Planet of the Apes. I found it here, and whether you’re reading this on the same night I’ve posted it or years after the fact, I hope that link still works. After all, everybody needs a little bit of Charlton Heston shouting “You maniacs!” every now and then.

But what struck me as odd when I first saw it, and what I’m glad to see is still the case tonight, is that the item at the top of the related videos list is this clip of Sarah Palin competing in the 1984 Miss Alaska pageant. For those of you who are curious, she placed third.

I have no idea why that clip tops YouTube’s list of videos related to the final scene of Planet of the Apes. I wouldn’t even want to speculate, because making fun of Sarah Palin is such a thing of the past. In this day and age, all it really does is keep her in the public eye, and who wants that?

Besides, it’s probably just the result of a weird algorithm I don’t understand. Sure, I’d like to think that YouTube’s average user equates Sarah Palin’s beauty pageant appearance with the end of human civilization at its own hands. But it’s probably just a tech thing I don’t get.
