Currently enjoying Bo Burnham’s self-titled album

I picked up the Bo Burnham record online this weekend, just a week after catching him live at Second City. It’s a pretty decent mix of live and prerecorded material, and it’s worth a listen or two.

I mean, it’s crude, and it doesn’t always hit the mark. The combination of the studio tracks and the live set leads to some of the material being repeated. And while the wordplay works on record if you’re willing and able to keep up, the live tracks are punctuated with a lot of silence as Burnham waits for the audience to catch up to the punchline.

All in all, though, not a bad record. As shameless and tasteless as it often is, Burnham’s doing some pretty innovative stuff.
