The best thing I can come up with — and perhaps it’s why Canada isn’t likely to go down the same garden path — is because countries in Europe have been more-or-less established for hundreds of years, in some cases over a thousand years and, for a good percentage of that life, the ethnic makeup of them was fairly constant.

Canada’s a newer kid on the block, though, and very much a work-in-progress. The wet cement hasn’t dried yet, so, hey everybody, c’mon in and write your name!

(But, NO IRISH!)
