Taking the plunge

I didn’t want to say anything about this until it was official, but today I got the final word. Starting the week after next, I’ll be taking Mondays off and cutting back to a four-day week at the office. My company’s been tightening up the purse strings, and although I don’t want to bore you with the details, we decided that this was the best situation for all of us.

Truth be told, it’s a move I’d been planning to make eventually. Most of the projects I was hired to do are nearly done, and there’s going to come a time when my workload will shrink and it would pay to devote some time to different things. I hadn’t planned on making the switch so soon, but it’s something I can afford to do, and it benefits everyone. My salary’s taking a hit, but my benefits aren’t affected, and it’s nice to have the Mondays off.

Everyone I’ve told about this has said I could use the time, and I’m not treating these extra days as a vacation. I’ve taken a couple of Mondays off already, and I’ve been using them to work on other projects and get a few new things off the ground. That’s going to be the routine from this point forward, and I think I’m going to be able to get some great things done as a result. Wish me luck!
