Life is hopefully peaceful there

Kate and I are flying down to Oregon tomorrow. One of the best dudes in my life is getting married on the weekend in the bride’s hometown of Grants Pass, and we figured we might as well throw some time in Portland into the mix and make a week of it. Frankly, I’m glad we did, because I think it’ll make me less of a jerk.

I don’t want to bore you with the details of my personal life, so let’s just say that work has been really demanding, planning a wedding is a pretty big deal, some people I care about are going through some stuff, and Kate and I are thinking of buying a house while the buying is good. Now, I like to think I’m an organized fellow who’s good at juggling multiple demands and taking the stress in stride. But nobody’s perfect, and lately I feel like I’m not doing a very good job of keeping my woes and worries to myself.

Thankfully, that’s where Portland apparently comes in. Based on the reading Kate’s been doing, Portland is a beautiful city where there isn’t much to do but chill out. The two of us tend to feel the pressure to make the most of any place we visit, and it sounds like the best way to make the most of Portland is just to get down there and take a little time off. My reluctance to give myself permission to do nothing is usually second only to my reluctance to admit I might be a Type A nerd, but in this case it looks like everybody wins if I get over myself and take a vacation.

So basically, responsibility can take a hike for now! Do any of you need anything from Portland? Because that’s where I’m going to be for a week with plenty of time to kill. Hooray!

Don’t volunteer to get anything for anyone! It’ll cut down on our coffee shop and microbrewery chilling time!

Hey, good point. Tough luck, everybody!

…gah! Thanks a lot, Kate — I was going to ask if Matt could kindly print out a hard copy of the Internet from Portland to see if it’s any different from the one I printed off here in Toronto. But I guess that’s not going to get done now, is it?
