Some people call him Hitler ’cause he speaks of the pompitous of universal health care

The “Obama as Hitler” thing has run its course. We can all agree on that, right? There’s a graphic making the rounds on the web at the moment, which you may have seen, that articulates the silliness of the Hitler angle better than I ever could. But that’s nothing compared to the new “Joker Obama” meme that’s apparently about to fill the void.

Bay Street is currently covered in homemade posters featuring a poorly doctored Obama in Joker makeup. Some of the posters say “Socialism” underneath, others say “Fascism,” and it looks like a few of them have additional buzzwords that have already been partially stripped away.

I don’t tend to do this lightly, but I think I can officially declare a new winner in my ongoing “What the hell does that even mean?” muddled metaphor contest. The previous winner, who held the title for over a year, was the anonymous visionary who covered Yonge Street in stickers that said “Rosa Parks would have been tasered too.” The prize is a brief mention on this blog and my personal disdain, so yeah, I guess it’s a pretty shitty contest.

Incidentally, the first undergrad to give me two thousand words on the social and racial ramifications of the first black president of the United States appearing in whiteface gets a free copy of Race Matters by Cornel West, along with the thrill of seeing their essay published on this blog. I’m a hundred percent serious. If you step up to the plate, I’ll honour your commitment.
