Something to cry about

Why do I always assume that any child who cries in public is just misbehaving? This morning at Tim Hortons, for example, there was this toddler just wailing her head off about God knows what. She was so loud, in fact, that her parents had to give up and drag her out of there. Why do I hold the kid and her parents at fault for something like that?

“Look at that bratty kid!” I’ll say. “Look at her awful parents! They must have made some big mistakes and probably have a really major drug problem for their kid to be throwing a tantrum like that in public! Take it from me, a guy who doesn’t have any kids!”

I’ve never met these people. Who am I to say that poor kid didn’t have a legitimate reason to cry? I mean, have you seen that Battle of the Blades thing yet? Maybe she was upset about that, you know?
