Collateral Murder

WikiLeaks has released a classified US military video depicting the indiscriminate slaying of over a dozen people in the Iraqi suburb of New Baghdad – including two Reuters news staff.”

The incident in question took place on the morning of Thursday, 12 July 2007. Wikileaks obtained the video and various supporting documents from a number of military whistleblowers. “The video, shot from an Apache helicopter gun-site, clearly shows the unprovoked slaying of a wounded Reuters employee and his rescuers. Two young children involved in the rescue were also seriously wounded.”

Needless to say, the video is a clear and graphic depiction of armed engagement, and it may not be suitable for younger or more sensitive viewers. Links to transcripts and video hosts alike can be found here.

“A senior American military official confirmed that the video was authentic,” according to an article in the New York Times about the video’s release.

Wikileaks released the video on Monday, 5 April 2010 at 10:44 AM EST. A wealth of additional information can be found at collateralmurder.com. Stay tuned, because there’s sure to be more to follow.
