Hey, you’ll never guess what else!
Remember when I told you that Kate had been named as a finalist in the short story contest the Toronto Star runs every year? Well, it turns out she finished in second place. Not too shabby for a contest with a record eighteen hundred entries!
This was all announced on Wednesday. A better boyfriend probably would have told you about it right away, but thankfully for me, Kate doesn’t have a better boyfriend. Meanwhile, the one she’s got was only too happy to help her celebrate her victory by going home, drinking wine, watching Black Books and falling asleep.
Besides, by waiting until today to tell you about it, I gave myself an opportunity to link to the story by third place winner Jennifer Coffey, who it was an absolute pleasure to meet this week. Do check it out.
Kate’s story will be published in this Sunday’s edition of the paper, and since she’s in the UK with her family at the moment, I’ve been instructed to buy many copies. She’s also been awarded an impressive $2,000 prize, and you can believe me when I tell you that I’ve had to work hard to convince her to spend it on herself and her writing, instead of the house or the wedding.
That said, if she spends it on a motorcycle or something, I’m basically going to be super pissed. Although to be fair, that would probably be at least a little totally hot.
