“24″ runs out the clock
Tonight’s episode of 24 was everything the finale of a long-running television series should be. It aired, it ended, and it won’t be followed by any new episodes. That, in the strictly technical sense, is how you wrap up a series!
Sure, you could also do something dramatic or poignant, or have a conclusion that resonates with the last eight years instead of just the last few episodes. But I guess you don’t have to, which is good, because 24 didn’t. Hell, I would have been happy if the ending had hung on more than just two of the characters that we’ve actually come to care about, but I’m willing to give the writers a pass on that one, if only because all the other characters are dead.
Anyway, it’s over. From now on, if you want to know what kind of dramatic fiction Fox News viewers enjoy, you’re just going to have to watch Fox News.
