Link of the Day: Help Baby Birds
There’s an ad on the subway at the moment for a website called helpbabybirds.ca. Although I don’t remember the exact wording, the ad copy was something like “Do you want to help this baby bird? Should you?”
Call me an awful person, but I laughed a little bit. Not only was the copy really vague – why does the bird need help, for example? – but it was also pretty ambivalent. Like, really ambivalent for a site that had paid good money to advertise on the subway. Half of the reason I eventually visited the link was because I wanted to see if it was actually just a single serving site that said “No, man, screw that bird.”
The important thing, of course, is that I did visit the site. For better or worse, the campaign worked on me. And it turns out it’s not about turning our backs on baby birds because we’ve got our own problems. It’s actually a guide to help you determine if a bird you’ve found needs help, and if so, where to get it. There, don’t you feel like a jerk now?
