Literal and ecological footprints alike

Guess what, fellow hippies? The ridiculously environmentally friendly shoes I ordered finally came in the mail yesterday!

“The sole of the shoe is biodegradable!” the company’s website boasts. “The midsole is made of EVA with Eco-Pure and the outsole is made of recycled rubber and natural rubber with Eco-Pure added. The Eco-Pure additive makes the EVA and rubber biodegrade in 20 years in a landfill or compost heap.”

Not only that, but the cotton’s all organic, including the laces and linings. The glue is water based instead of petroleum based. The foot inserts are made from post-consumer recycled paper. The eyestays are suede, so I guess that means they’re not vegan, but at least the tannery is eco-certified. And from there, the list goes on.

Hell, even the shoebox was “made of post-consumer recycled paper, soy based printing ink, natural latex and starch based glue.” Somebody put a lot of very progressive thought into these shoes!

Sure, they had to be shipped from California and travel over four thousand kilometres to get here. But the uppers are a jute blend, whatever that means!
