Keep laughing
Moments ago, while standing in line to get some coffee on the way back to the office, I saw a short, scrawny teenage kid wearing a t-shirt that said “Keep laughing… This is your girlfriend’s shirt!”
And you know what? I did do a little laughing. Hell, to be honest, I was pretty close to laughing my ass off. Here was an unassuming kid, wearing the dumbest and most macho of t-shirts, which didn’t even remotely fit because he was so small and wiry. He was the picture of awkward, and to me, it was hilarious.
Not because he wasn’t pulling it off, you understand. I may be many things, but I like to think I’m not the sort of guy who laughs at an awkward teenager who’s just trying to look cool. Lord knows it’s a difficult age, and I spent more than my share of my youth looking like I just didn’t belong.
On the contrary, this particular kid was pulling it off to such a heavy degree that I couldn’t help but picture him in a clothing store with his friends, holding up that shirt and saying “Dudes, how hilariously inappropriate would it be for me to buy this and wear it? Can you picture me in this thing? Lend me some money so I can get this.”
If that’s where that kid was coming from, and I like to believe it was, then that’s amazing. I salute you, kid who’s far more awesome and self-assured than I was at that age! You and me, we have no quarrel!
Unless, of course, that actually was my girlfriend’s shirt you were wearing. Because if that’s the case, then I’m afraid we’re going to have to have words.
