Published today: Funki Porcini review on Chart

The toughest reviews to write are the ones for books, records or shows that are neither good nor bad. I’m talking about the stuff that doesn’t really leave any real impression on you whatsoever. This, I’m afraid, is one such review.

In fairness, I think I did a really hamfisted job of making the point that spans the first four paragraphs. Believe me, it went through rewrite after rewrite, and I still didn’t end up with something I can call decent – let alone catch a “leave in” that should have been a “leave out.”

That said, those first few paragraphs, and indeed the review as a whole, really were the best way to express the impact, or lack thereof, that this record had on me.
