Making every day count (and also kind of suck)

It’s easy to put off a job or a project when there’s some aspect of it, even a small one, that you don’t like the thought of doing. Whether it’s a conversation you don’t want to have, a mistake you don’t want to deal with, a general fear of failure or just a bunch of math, there are plenty of reasons why you might decide to avoid a job for days, weeks or months.

Now, I like to think I’m a guy who gets a few things done in a day. I tend to take on a lot, for better or worse, and I generally do a pretty good job of working through it. But there are a few things I’m behind on, and there are plenty of jobs I’ve been putting off. If I really want to get things done, I’ve got to get over these mental hurdles.

That’s why, for the next little while at least, I’ve resolved to tackle at least one “pain in the ass” per day.

Whatever it is, regardless of the reasons why I’ve been putting it off, I’m going to choose a new pain in the ass each day and get it over with. And I’m not going to cheat and just call any boring job I might end up doing my pain in the ass of the day, either; I’m making a list, and I’m going to work my way through it.
