Oh my God, the four-time champion!
By the way, for those of you who are wondering, my brother did indeed defend his title at Gong the Show last night at Comedy Bar. The competition was intense, but he proved himself the star of the final round. Nice work, Jon!
I had never been to Gong the Show before, and I’ve got to say that it was a great night out. It’s an excellent reminder that the Comedy Bar community is full of clever and talented people. A number of the Sketchersons did some fine work indeed, and many of the other contenders on the bill gave them a run for their money. But far from being a simple showcase of individual talent, the sheer level of improvisational skill and shared commitment made the night a surprisingly impressive ensemble show.
On a personal note, it was a fine night out. Kate and I had a lot of fun, a few drinks, and a great many laughs. And we didn’t even throw up on the subway over the course of several stops, like the drunk club girl whose friend took a bunch of pictures of her instead of taking care of her. See you on Facebook, ladies!
Either way, thanks in no small part to a final round monologue in which Daniel Plainview explained a girl’s first period, my brother has once again proven himself to be the best there is and the best there was, in Gong the Show terms at least. Will he prove to be the best there ever will be? Let’s all go to next month’s show and find out!
