Trying and failing to make the “no better than Hitler” thing sound intelligent and justified

I’m coming to the table a few weeks late on this one, but isn’t it just a fancy, ostensibly literate way of calling the other guy Hitler? And really, can’t we do better than that?

I actually rather like Glad Hand. It’s a clever strip, and at its best it makes a great point in a wonderfully indignant way.

But come on, man. There’s not a single political candidate, party or movement drawing significant votes in Canada right now who’s far enough to the right to warrant the “fascist” label. None of them embody the evils our country fought against in the last century. Maybe there are warning signs, if you’re feeling generous, but that’s not the same.

You can dress it up all you like, but the “Hitler” thing’s lazy and lame no matter how it’s framed or presented. What we need to do is drop it altogether.
