The gun is mightier than a week of cute baby stories
I don’t get a huge amount of blog traffic, but I tend to do well on the days I go off on a rant. The more backed by facts and/or buoyed by snark a post may be, the further it’s likely to travel. Yesterday’s post on Gun Appreciation Day was a good example, generating some of the biggest traffic I’ve gotten in a while.
Then again, maybe the post was only relatively successful. It did, after all, follow five or six posts about my kid. None of them did quite as well, and really, why would they?
Now, I’m not saying I’m going to cut out the kid’s stuff, but it might be time to broaden my horizons again. In fact, it would probably do me some good. I’ve been feeling like this blog has lacked a little variety lately, and it wouldn’t hurt to turn my attention to subjects that are undoubtedly more relevant to you than the cute thing my kid did yesterday. Call it the blog equivalent of parents craving adult conversation.
Of course, I could always combine babies and politics by turning this blog into an angry, rambling pro-choice forum. But frankly, I don’t think I’ve got the time or the vitriol for something like that.
