Weekend Mission Accomplished: Set up my DJ gear

I realized the other day that it had been weeks since I’d touched my DJ equipment. I’m pretty sure the anniversary party for White Ribbon back in December was the last time I’d even plugged my gear in. So I committed to setting up the studio again this weekend, and now I’m committing to find a little time to practice in the course of each day.

As silly as it sounds, I’ve avoided rehearsing because I don’t want to be a nuisance. The room where I keep my gear is above our bedroom, and across the hall from my daughter’s room. It’s rare that I have an opportunity to rehearse when my daughter’s not sleeping, and because I also don’t get to spend a huge amount of time with my wife after work, I tend to get down to my own business after she’s gone to bed. And because I don’t want to wake anybody, DJing is usually the first job to hit the back burner.

That’s the way it’s been for several weeks, and it’s time to put a stop to it. I’ve got projects I want to develop and gigs I want to build, and they’re not going to get anywhere if I don’t do the work. I’ve mentioned that I want to start treating DJing more like a business, and that means showing up every day, if only for a few minutes at a time between bottles and diapers.

It’s time to get back in the habit. Give me a couple of weeks to hit my stride again, and I’ll do my best to come back with something to show for it.
