Back in the old country

We’ve landed safely in the UK. My kid got plenty of sleep on the plane, thanks in no small part to the airline bumping us up to a row of three seats instead of two. Remind me to send Air Transat my thanks about that one.

It’s a good time to be here! My mother-in-law and my brother-in-law share the same birthday, which happened to be the day we landed. The following day, my three-year-old nephew was baptized at a church just up the road. And the day before we head back, my sister-in-law is getting married, which is going to be a terrific and triumphant occasion.

These are just some of the reasons why it’s great to be here. You miss out on so many of these occasions when your family’s spread out across the ocean, so it’s really cool to be here during such a busy block of time.

But beyond that, of course, it’s just nice to have a couple of weeks off. I’m really looking forward to catching up with the family, spending some time with my wife and kid, and stepping away from the day-to-day. I hope you all get to do a bit of that yourself in the days ahead!
