To a certain extent, my life revolves around boxes
A couple of weeks ago, with a big move coming up, Kate and I found ourselves running all around town trying to find a bunch of boxes. We got what we needed in the end, but I’ve got to admit that I felt a little bit ridiculous doing it.
But you know what’s even more ridiculous than asking people for boxes? Begging people to take the empty boxes you’re done with. And to make a long story short, would you like some boxes?
I can’t speak for Kate, but I was under the impression that once we were done with this titanic pain in the ass of a process, we could just put all of our boxes out on the street, and then the city or at least the box fairy would come along and pick them up. But apparently, that’s not the case! Instead, we’re expected to cram whatever boxes we can fit into the extremely limited space in our recycling bin every couple of weeks, and hope they get taken away!
At this rate, we’ll have paid off our mortgage before we get rid of these damned boxes! I mean, what are my property taxes paying for?
Also, what do you mean I now have to pay property taxes? Does the city really need my money that badly? Oh, it does? Because it’s been getting disproportionately meagre funding from the provincial and federal governments all these years? And property taxes are one of the pathetically few remaining means a Canadian city has of supporting its many important services? Okay, then I guess that’s cool!
