“I lost to a dead guy”

There’s an old episode of Night Court in which pompous, lecherous prosecutor Dan Fielding loses his campaign for city council to a dead opponent. It scored big laughs among the show’s audience – not only because Fielding was exactly the sort of stuffed shirt who viewers love to see humiliated, but also because of the sheer ridiculousness of the voters choosing a dead man over his contender.

Here’s the thing, though: Talking Points Memo has just posted a list of not one, but four candidates who died before Tuesday’s election in the States and won their respective races anyway.
