We’ve been compromised!

Owning a house can be a pretty fascinating thing, especially during the first few months. There’s always a host of quirks and issues to discover, and just when you think you’ve spotted them all, another one cones along. Oh, and since you own the place, every new problem is yours to solve.

If you live here in town, then I don’t have to tell you about last night’s massive storm. Kate and I came home from the Local Motion launch – which I’ll tell you more about a little later – to discover a leak in the frame of our back door. Rain had dripped in and soaked through the carpet to the point of dripping into the basement through the ceiling.

Oh, what a range of emotions! Bemusement over the fact that we had another problem to deal with! Laughter over the little things that life can throw your way! Fascination over the workings of the leak itself! Relief as we realized that this very problem was the cause of the stain that was on our basement ceiling when we bought the house! Anger as we realized that the stain is proof that the previous owner had suffered through the same leak, probably many times over, and had never done anything about it!

Either way, guess who’s got plans for the weekend? Me in my living room, that’s who. Also the upstairs bathroom, since my wife quite rightly pointed out that we might as well seal the tub as long as we’re doing the door frame.
