Link of the Day: Southern Poverty Law Centre Intelligence Files

“Extremists in the U.S.,” the SPLC notes, “come in many different forms – white nationalists, anti-gay zealots, black separatists, racist skinheads, neo-Confederates and more.

“The Intelligence Files database contains profiles of various prominent extremists and extremist organizations. It also examines the histories and core beliefs – or ideologies – of the most common types of extremist movements. In addition, it illustrates connections between individuals, groups and extremist ideologies.”

Even at a glance, you can tell it’s rather thorough. I first laid eyes on it yesterday, following the centre’s announcement that a white supremacist and “Internet shock jock” named Hal Turner had been sentenced to thirty-three months in prison for threatening three Chicago judges. Because the centre already had an extensive profile on Turner in their database, they were immediately able to encourage their followers to learn more about him.

And yeah, from the look of things, this Turner fellow is a real piece of work. Certainly not as lovably goofy as his resemblance to Kevin James would suggest.
