Currently enjoying “Synchronize” by Discodeine featuring Jarvis Cocker

If you can judge the album French duo Discodeine are set to release in March on the strength of their latest single, then it’s bound to be a catchy, funky album indeed. As the instrumental version of “Synchronize” featured on the five-track single proves, there’s a lot more to the track than just a famous, infectious voice.

That said, if you want to make a good track great, tapping Jarvis Cocker is a fine way to go. He’s got a funny way of making a track like “Synchronize” his own without taking anything away from the producers.

The track is getting some good rotation of BBC 6 Music, where Cocker coincidentally hosts a Sunday afternoon show. But as you discover once you get into it, radio doesn’t do it justice; it’s a track you’ll want to play several times in a row.

There are plenty of hooks to explore among the single’s five tracks; this isn’t one of those singles that just gives you one cut with a few different running times. There’s a lot of variation among the mixes, and surely something for everyone – even that one gloomy Pulp fan whose idea of dancing is a mopey shuffle in the dark. Do check it out.
