Calm down, everybody!
The streetcar I was on was full of people. When it pulled up at the next stop, the driver opened the door and told the man hoping to board that he’d have to wait for the next one. “Damn it!” the man shouted. “Shit!”
When I got to work, one of the elevators was out again, and the lobby was packed with people waiting for one of the increasingly rare working elevators. The fellow standing closest to the broken elevator stared at it with clenched fists and a reddened face, as if the simple act of doing so would somehow make the elevator work again. “Shit!” the man shouted. “Come on!”
When I was finally able to get on an elevator and take it up to my floor, I was shoved aside as the doors opened by a hamfisted oaf who didn’t even realize it wasn’t his floor. “Whoops!” he said, remaining standing in front of the open doors and blocking any possible movement instead of moving aside like a reasonable person or a well trained animal would do. Sure, like any of us, I thought about shouting “Out of the way, you inbred lardass!” But did I? No, as a matter of fact, I didn’t.
See, guys? That’s all it takes. Can’t we as a society learn to be civil to each other?

You would all be healthier and happier if you just took the stairs up.
Real talk.
Not everybody has a blog on which to vent their boiling rage, smartguy.
Carny: You’re not the first to suggest that. Unfortunately, due to some fire prevention scheme, the stairwell doors only open on certain floors. So I can take them down from my floor, for example, but not up.
Sofi: That’s exactly the problem.
Shouldn’t the stairwell doors open on every floor? That doesn’t seem like a “fire prevention” scheme to me — it seems like a “maximize the potential injuries and deaths in case there was an actual fire” scheme, which doesn’t seem like a terribly wise idea.
Well, yeah, you can get into the stairwell from any floor of the building. But you can’t leave it from any except for a few, including the floor below mine. That’s what I mean. I can take the stairs down, but I can’t take them up.
