Working in the morning, thinking in the afternoon

By the time this post gets published, I’ll be back at the office after a two-week vacation. I’ll also have been awake since a “dad duty” shift at 4:00 AM, which is going to make today a challenge. I guess I should thank my daughter for helping me keep my resolution to get up early, even if this isn’t quite what I had in mind.

Who was it that said it’s a good idea to break up the day by doing grunt work in the morning and creative thinking in the afternoon? I’d cite the idea with a link, if I could remember where I’d read it. I know Abraham Lincoln swore by this method, but I doubt it came up in the Lincoln trailer.

Today’s a good day to try this method out. I’ll have a lot of calls and emails to catch up on in the morning, and I doubt I’ll be alert enough in the afternoon to trust myself with detailed tasks. If I divide the day up as above, I might stand a chance of getting something decent done.

Give it a try yourself, if you like. Let me know how it works out in the comments, or let me know what kind of routine you prefer. Also, if you’ve seen Lincoln, let me know what you thought of it; I hear it’s pretty great.
