The lexicon of laptop laments

You know what I hate? I hate having to diagnose and fix a computer problem without knowing how to describe it. It happens more than I’d like to admit, and it never works out.

This morning, for example, my laptop screen started acting up. It’s got a weird yellow tint, or sometimes a blue one, and the imaging’s all twitchy. Well, sometimes it’s less of a twitch and more of a wobble.

Try Googling that, and see how far you get. That’s literally the best description I can come up with, and I like to think of myself as a guy who’s good with words. Then again, I also like to think I’m good with computers, and all current evidence on both counts is to the contrary.

Well, except for the alliteration in the title of this post. What did you think? Pretty good, right?

Hmm, I suppose you could try to record it when it happens with a smartphone, and then post it up on YouTube or something and ask people to comment.

You can also rule out whether it’s an issue with your video chip or if it’s the laptop’s actual screen by using screen video capture software. Maybe with this:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/camstudio/

If it’s your video chip, the program should record the problems, but if it’s the screen itself, it won’t.

Thanks, Krantzstone! I am indeed hoping it’s a driver issue, if only out of sheer optimism…

But now the next time someone googles that same problem, this page will come up!

Well, I guess I’d better get moving on the solution, then! I’d hate for this post to be frustrating and useless to that person…
