Neither bitter nor vanquished

Today is the first anniversary of the election that sent Barack Obama to the White House, and the folks at the Daily Beast picked an interesting way to mark the occasion. Shushannah Walshe and Scott Conroy, the authors of a new book called Sarah From Alaska, shared the full text of the victory and concession speeches that Sarah Palin had in her pocket on election night. Many thanks to Omar El Akkad for the link.

The speeches themselves are worth reading, and it’s interesting to note how much of the copy is common to both. The feature also includes highlights from both speeches, along with hinting at some of the reasons why she didn’t get to deliver either one. It’s a teaser for the book, of course, so if you want to learn more then you might want to check it out.

Meanwhile, I chose to mark the occasion with this thing. But I’ll be the first to admit that it’s not as illuminating as Palin’s speeches – and depending on how much you like your schadenfreude, it’s probably not as funny.
