Recording live at Everyone’s a DJ

Despite the fact that I didn’t start booking and promoting tomorrow night’s edition of Everyone’s a DJ until much later than usual, it’s been a good day for bookings, and I’ve only got a few spots left. I’d obviously like to fill them as soon as possible, so I thought I’d get the word about something new we’re going to try this time around.

Tomorrow night we’re going to hook a digital recorder up to the mixer and record the sets right off the boards. After the party, any and all DJs who request a copy of their set will get an MP3 file that they can enjoy as they see fit. Whether they want to put it up on the web and/or share it with friends and fans, or just give it a listen and see how they did, they’ll have the option.

We won’t make any use of these sets whatsoever without the appropriate DJ’s permission. Hell, if anyone doesn’t want their set recorded, I won’t save the file. It’ll be the DJs who decide how these files are shared (although the usual copyrights on the tracks they’re spinning should obviously be taken into account).

I have no idea how well it’s going to work, but if it does, we’ll do it at ever party from that point forward. I’m planning on doing a trial run tonight here at home, and I may even post the results in this space as a sample. Stay tuned for details, and do feel free to sign up and/or spread the word in the meantime. Thanks!
