Link of the Day: MindFreedom International

MindFreedom International is a nonprofit organization that fights for human rights and alternative support for people labeled with psychiatric disabilities. MindFreedom unites a hundred sponsor and affiliate groups with thousands of individual members to work for change.

“In a spirit of mutual cooperation, MindFreedom leads a nonviolent revolution of freedom, equality, truth and human rights that unites people affected by the mental health system with movements for justice everywhere.”

This weekend marks the end of this year’s Mad Pride celebration in Toronto, the city in which the first event of its kind was held in September of 1993. Annual events are now held in cities around the world, each one designed to raise awareness of the realities of mental illness, and of the obstacles and discrimination that those who suffer from it often have to face.
