Link of the Day: Ford in His Own Words

For the past few days, links to this site have been popping up all over the more progressive local corners of the web. At the very least, you’ve probably already seen the main page, which features a rotating catalog of some of the more repugnant things Rob Ford has ever said.

Sure, there are only five quotes in that rotation. But there’s also a page where you can tweet those five quotes, plus another page where you can send a postcard to your friends and family with one of those five quotes on it. There’s also a video page featuring those same quotes again. Well, two of them, anyway.

All right, you know what? This is actually a pretty weak attack site. And it was authorized by the CFO for the George Smitherman campaign, so maybe that’s a bit telling. I mean, I get the point they’re trying to make, but I think that Mel Lastman made it clear that a few offensive quotes aren’t enough to prevent a person from enjoying a lengthy career as the mayor of Toronto. And yeah, Lastman was admittedly far more qualified than Ford, but there you go.

Let’s just say I applaud the argument, if not its execution. I mean, it’s Rob Ford, for Christ’s sake. “Give me a list of five offensive things this guy said” is basically a job that a campaign intern could do in forty-five minutes, you know?
