Get your tickets for Words and help me avoid looking like a damned fool

Words, the Literature for Life fundraiser I’ve been telling you about, is coming to C Lounge on Thursday night. Tickets are $20.00 in advance, and I’ve got a bunch to sell. Would you like one?

This event represents a bit of a landmark for our younger supporters and board members alike. For one thing, the talent is definitely geared toward a younger crowd. The event will include a spoken word poetry session featuring Dwayne Morgan, Jwyze and Rootz Kizzy, music by Andria Symaniw and Mike Celia, and DJ sets by k-os and the Gillespie Brothers.

Beyond that, though, it also represents a shift in our approach to fundraising. Most of the fundraising events that we’ve held in the past, and will continue to hold, have come with a higher ticket price. We’ve had no trouble attracting our share of attendees, of course, but most of them have come from what we’ll call a more “mature” demographic; it’s traditionally been a tougher sale for people at our age and income level.

In fact, when it came time to tally up the ticket sales for our last gala, the younger board members had come in well behind the rest. We were certain it was mainly because of the ticket price, and so we decided try some events with lower ticket costs in the hope of reaching out to our community more effectively. Words is the first of these events, and that means it’s the first opportunity for the younger fundraisers to put our money where our mouths are.

And of course, when I say “our” money…

If you’re in the Toronto area and you’re free on Thursday night, I’d be grateful to the point of honoured if you could join us at C Lounge. Literature for Life is a tremendous organization, and I’d love for you to get to know it and discover why it deserves your support. What better reason to check out a great party on a Thursday night?

Tickets are available online, or you can get in touch with me to get your name added to an advance ticket “will call” list. There’s also an event listing on Facebook, for those of you who would like to RSVP or learn more about this event.

Thank you! If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Looking forward to seeing you!
