Published today: David Cross and Mathias Mental reviews on Chart
Two in one day! I enjoyed the new David Cross album, which has a lot of great moments, but it’s not his best work. It’s good, but he set a pretty high standard with his first two albums, and this one’s just not as strong.
My review of the new Mathias Mental album was a tough one to write. I really did like a lot of the music, and it didn’t feel right to penalize an album so heavily because of the lyrics. But what can I tell you? They give the album an insufferable personality that really weighs the whole thing down.
Anyway, this actually wasn’t the first time I’d felt like I could have given a record higher marks if it hadn’t had any vocals. And if one of the records I’m listening to now is any indication, it may not be the last. Maybe I should take a short break from reviewing dance albums with vocal tracks.
