Did doctors in Berlin just cure an HIV-positive patient?

This story has just dropped, so take it for what it’s worth, but doctors have announced that they believe an HIV-positive man named Timothy Ray Brown, who in 2007 underwent a stem cell transplant, has been cured as a result of the procedure.

According to their report in the journal Blood, the results of extensive testing on Brown “strongly suggest that cure of HIV infection has been achieved.”

The Huffington Post is careful to note that “these developments by no means prove a cure for the virus has been found.” Much like the findings of the recent Truvada study, these results aren’t an end in themselves, but they’re certainly promising.
