It’s Friday, so here’s the video for “Reasons to be Cheerful, Part 3″ by Ian Dury and the Blockheads
The weekend’s waiting in the wings, and spring is hot on its heels, so let’s take it back to seventy-nine and have a little fun with this one.
The saxophone solo in the middle of the track was reportedly added to the song because soloist Davey Payne was unhappy about the financial disparities within the band. In order to keep him happy, Ian Dury encouraged co-writer Chaz Jankel to make room for a solo that Payne could improvise, thereby earning him a writing credit and a bigger piece of the pie. So yeah, add “diplomatic band leaders” and “songwriting royalties” to the list.
