Vazaleen remembers Will Munro at Wrongbar

, June 17, 2010

As you may already know by now, Toronto artist, DJ and queer icon Will Munro passed away in May following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was thirty-five, and he’ll be missed by the great many people who got to feel his impact on the city and its culture throughout the years. If you’re one […]

Link of the Day: Kraftwerk

, June 16, 2010

Kraftwerk’s got a pretty great website. It’s deliberately simple and kitschy, but in an odd way, it’s also surprisingly rich. There are very few bands who could get away with something like this, but it’s in keeping with their aesthetic, and it totally works.

Published today: David Cross and Mathias Mental reviews on Chart

, June 15, 2010

Two in one day! I enjoyed the new David Cross album, which has a lot of great moments, but it’s not his best work. It’s good, but he set a pretty high standard with his first two albums, and this one’s just not as strong. My review of the new Mathias Mental album was a […]

How would you like to yell at a fake Tony Hayward?

, June 15, 2010

I got a little bored this afternoon – towards the end of what was actually a very productive day at the office – so I decided to create a fake Twitter account for Tony Hayward, the controversial and evidently evil CEO of BP. As the name might suggest, I didn’t create @yellathayward because I wanted […]

Currently enjoying three new tracks produced by Nem-One

, June 15, 2010

Nem-One is a ridiculously talented producer. For the past twelve years and counting, he’s been producing tracks under a wide range of pseudonyms; you may know him as Nemo Burbank, Professor Falken, Haluk + Cuban, or any number of long-discarded monikers. But the one constant, from the beginning on down, is that he’s always been […]

Link of the Day: AIDS Walk for Life

, June 15, 2010

The AIDS Committee of Toronto is already encouraging its supporters to save Sunday, 19 September 2010, because that’s the date of this year’s AIDS Walk for Life. I did the walk last year, and if all goes well, I’ll do it again this year. You can register for the walk if you’d like to take […]

Link of the Day: The Canadian Electric Wheelchair Hockey Association

, June 14, 2010

Saturday was an incredibly busy day – and I’ll tell you more about that later – but one of its brightest spots was definitely a banquet for the CEWHA at which I was invited to spin. My friend Paul, who lives on the same block as my parents back in Scarborough, is a player in […]

Link of the Day: Chainsawsuit

, June 13, 2010

If you’re into something simple and surreal, then you’ll probably find Chainsawsuit to be one of the better webcomics out there. Thanks to David Cheung for posting the tip way back when.

Link of the Day: VotingBloc.org

, June 12, 2010

Definitely a notable resource when it comes to “organizing and uniting voters behind issues not parties. If you are tired of partisan politics and elected officials ignoring the issues important to you then become a strategic voter.” You can join a local or national voting bloc related to the issue of your choice, and you […]

Published today: Peter Wolf Crier review on Chart

, June 11, 2010

I quite liked this one. It does have a bit of a rough “indie” feel to it, but the tunes are there, and they’re great.
