Link of the Day: It Starts With You

The White Ribbon Campaign hosts an excellent website called It Starts With You. It’s “an online-based, social media campaign… to inspire men to promote healthy equal relationships with the boys in their lives.” And now, in partnership with the Center for Digital Storytelling, the site is about to create an opportunity for adult men to do just that through the creation of short video testimonials.

“Participants will have a chance to explore their own experiences as men and boys,” Executive Director Todd Minerson explained in a recent email, “and what formative moments led them to work as allies in the effort to end violence against women.

“The White Ribbon Campaign is looking for men who play a positive role in the lives of boys or young men and are interested in promoting gender equality, respect and healthy relationships. You could be a father, guardian, teacher, grandfather, coach, youth group leader or have any other role of significance in the lives of young men. We are looking for men who are ready to share their stories of hope.”

The email suggests that the campaign will choose ten men from among the potential participants. No filmmaking experience or camera technology is required, but participants must be able to commit to the workshop process and submit a brief application. Those who do participate will receive a DVD copy of their digital story, along with meals, transportation support, and a small honorarium.

There don’t seem to be many details on the site about this project specifically, but the information package and application can be downloaded through the main White Ribbon Campaign site in PDF format.
