“Mean Face, Happy Face”

My daughter’s aunt Jocelyn taught her a new game while we were all on vacation. It’s called “Mean Face, Happy Face,” and it’s just about the cutest thing you ever saw.

It started out simple enough. Jocelyn trained my daughter to frown by scrunching up her own expression and growling “Mean face!” Then, with a grin, she’d yell “Happy face!” and make my daughter laugh and giggle. Before long, the two of them were going back and forth with ease.

My daughter loves this game, and it didn’t take her long to figure out that she doesn’t have to wait for someone else to start it. Several times since, she’s looked at one of us with the cutest little condescending frown, and we’ve responded in kind, yelling “Mean face!”

“So if she gives you a look like she can’t stand the sight of you,” I had to tell the ladies at her daycare this morning, “it’s just because she wants to play a game with you. It’s not because she went away on vacation and came back a total jerk.”

  1. Jocelyn says:

Oh no! I did not consider the long term consequences of this game! I claim temporary insanity caused by staring into a ridiculously cute baby’s pretty eyes.

Nobody blames you, Jocelyn. Not to worry!
