That’s it, I’m outta here
Damon Albarn of Blur appeared on a recent cover of the NME because they tapped him to interview the cartoon monkey musicians in Gorillaz. And in case you haven’t been keeping up, Gorillaz are a “virtual band” that I guess we’re all supposed to pretend that Damon Albarn isn’t also in.
If you grew up on The Simpsons, as I did, then you’ll no doubt remember the episode in which Lisa had a few friends over for a slumber party, and one of them dared another to kiss Bart. He managed to get away, little devil that he is, so they wound up giving Maggie a makeover instead. Well, when a shockingly negligent Homer finally noticed, all he could do was throw the newspaper down and shout “That’s it, I’m outta here!” before heading off to the bar.
Judge me all you want, but that line makes me laugh every single time. And as much as I hate to take my social cues from a cartoon, “That’s it, I’m outta here!” was my spontaneous and visceral reaction to that cover – and that reaction has only grown in defiant resolve in the days that have followed.
I mean, I know that there are plenty of important, non-trivial things that I could just as easily rant and rave about. I know that. But it’s the end of a long weekend, and I’m basically out of energy, so my distaste for this cutesy meta-interview will have to do for now. I promise I’ll yell and scream about something more important later in the week.

I don’t like Gorillaz, and I don’t much care for Blur, either. (I swear, if I have to hear Song 2 at another sporting event, I’m going to march up to the PA operator and strangle him until he is dead.)
Have you heard Free Energy? I’m digging them a whole lot these days. And, they’re real people (as far as I can tell).
I don’t believe I have, but I’ll be sure to check them out. Thanks for the tip!
