Link of the Day: Hands Off Mother Earth!
Our friend Jim Thomas has been staying with us this weekend. He’s come to town from Montreal to speak at an activist summit that’s being hosted at Ryerson in advance of the G20, and one of the major issues he’s here to discuss is geoengineering. “The modern concept of geoengineering (or climate engineering),” Wikipedia says, […]

Link of the Day: “The Manual” in PDF format
I actually found the link I posted yesterday while searching for this one. It’s a PDF copy of The Manual, the book that the KLF – or technically the Timelords – wrote about writing and recording their number one hit. “It was an excuse to say a lot of things I wanted to say about […]

It’s Friday, so here’s the video for “Justified & Ancient (Stand by the JAMs)” by the KLF
Continuing on a theme, I might as well throw this one out there. A bold new direction for the KLF, and a weird but wonderful comeback for Tammy Wynette. Check it out.

Link of the Day: “Watch the K Foundation Burn a Million Quid”
Watch the K Foundation Burn a Million Quid is a documentary about a notorious performance art action that the KLF – or technically the K Foundation – pulled off in August of 1994. I’ve never actually seen it. But thanks to an old post on BoingBoing, I now know I can watch the whole thing […]

Hey, do Toronto bands tip the sound guy?
I just finished reading Punk Rock Etiquette, which is a charming and informative book by a fellow from Texas named Travis Nichols. It’s one of many amazing books that the Make Some Noise program at the Toronto Public Library recently recommended, and I’m very glad to have taken them up on reading it. It admittedly […]

Two weeks until the Babylon Telecom reboot
The recently announced Babylon Telecom reboot, previously mentioned here, is scheduled for two weeks from today. There’s still no word on what the reboot’s actually going to involve, but whatever it is, it’ll hopefully stick this time. Stay tuned for what will hopefully be plenty of new information on the reboot date. After all, what […]

Link of the Day: Ministry’s Chicago Blackhawks anthem
Here’s a Ministry track called “Keys to the City,” which originally hit the web back in March. It’s all about the Chicago Blackhawks and how great they are. I’ll bet you didn’t see that coming. And I guess it must have worked, because they did go on to win the cup this year.

Vazaleen remembers Will Munro at Wrongbar
As you may already know by now, Toronto artist, DJ and queer icon Will Munro passed away in May following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was thirty-five, and he’ll be missed by the great many people who got to feel his impact on the city and its culture throughout the years. If you’re one […]

Link of the Day: Kraftwerk
Kraftwerk’s got a pretty great website. It’s deliberately simple and kitschy, but in an odd way, it’s also surprisingly rich. There are very few bands who could get away with something like this, but it’s in keeping with their aesthetic, and it totally works.

Published today: David Cross and Mathias Mental reviews on Chart
Two in one day! I enjoyed the new David Cross album, which has a lot of great moments, but it’s not his best work. It’s good, but he set a pretty high standard with his first two albums, and this one’s just not as strong. My review of the new Mathias Mental album was a […]
